Lewiston travel preview
LEWISTON -Boys and girls entering Grades 5-6 in the fall of 2005 who may be interested in trying out for the 2005-2006 Lewiston Rec Department Travel Basketball Team are invited to attend a preview. The session is scheduled for March 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Lewiston High School gym. It will provide youngsters with a chance to meet coaches Andy Morin and Jim Handy and members of this year’s team.
Lewiston competes in the Western Maine Coed Youth Basketball League that includes teams from Auburn, Turner, Jay-Livermore, Oxford Hills, North Franklin, Wilton and Mexico. The season normally runs from November to March. Home games are played at Lewiston Armory.
Tryouts will be held in the early fall.
“Taking part in a travel team allows the kids to take the fundamentals that they’ve learned playing on their school and rec department teams and build on them,” said coach Andy Morin. “The travel team also exposes them to a different level of basketball.”
Handy said the preview will give parents and youngsters a chance to ask questions. “We wanted to give parents and kids a chance to meet the team and coaches and find out as much as possible about travel basketball,” he added.
Between them, Morin and Handy have many years experience as youth basketball coaches.
