RUMFORD – Florida “Freda” Weir, 90, born in Jay, on March 12, 1915, a daughter of Anna and George Bernard, and widow of Ralph Weir, passed onto eternal peace on March 6, in the loving care of family, hospice support, and by the devoted nurses of Rumford Community Home.

Anyone who knew her, knew that her life was enriched by her love of animals, beautiful flower gardens, and countless hours of needlework projects, which she shared with many friends and neighbors in Dixfield.

She was particularly proud of her contributions to the war effort, by her employment at a torpedo factory in California, while Ralph was in the Navy. Many people knew her pleasant personality as she worked with her husband in their electrical business, as well as her kind and dedicated work at the Dixfield Nursing Home.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Mexico. She well deserved the title as “Matriarch” of her family, always at the heart of family gatherings. From births, to graduations, to weddings, she lovingly shared in the growing years of her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and will forever hold fond memories dear to their hearts.

She will be dearly missed by her siblings, a brother, Fred Bernard and his wife, Rollie, of Lewiston, and a sister, Theresa Gallant of Mexico; and many devoted nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Benjamin and Joseph “Jun” Bernard.
