FALMOUTH – St. Dom’s has captured the championship of the Maine Girls Ice Hockey Association (club teams).

The Saints advanced to the finals Saturday morning with a 4-1 victory over Winthrop in a semifinal contest. Brittane Michaud tallied 2 goals and Sami Monette and Alyssa Plourde added 1 each. Credited with assists were Avery Olbrych (2), Monette (2) and Michaud. Goalie Ashley Noyes was outstanding. Kayla Kimball scored the lone Winthrop goal. Cait Putnam and Ashley Patenaude shared the net duties.

St. Dom’s then captured the title later in the day by edged previously undefeated North Yarmouth Academy 3-2. Michaud put the Doms on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal with 5:39 left in the first period. Cameo Larrivee made it 2-0 in the second period, assisted by Kathrin Gallick and Erica Van Der Werf. NYA cut the gap to 2-1 as Rhegan Flanagan lit the lamp in the middle round. But the Saints made it 3-1 later in the period as Monette tallied an unassisted goal. NYA sliced the deficit to 3-2 on Flanagan’s second goal with 3:27 left in the game, but that was the end of the scoring. Noyes stopped 8 of 10 shots in goal to provide the Saints with their first state title.

NYA goalie Jennifer Koshliek faced 10 shots, turning back 7.
