LEWISTON – James F. Adams Sr., 75, of 2161 Lisbon Road, Lewiston, passed away Friday, March 11.

He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 5, 1929, the son of Byron C. Adams Sr. and Jane E. Thornton Adams.

He was a life-long resident of Lewiston. He was educated in the Lewiston school system, and was employed through high school at the Lewiston Sun Journal. After high school, he became a truck driver and delivery man for Peck’s department store, and later held the same position at Bates Street’s Cigar. He then began a long career at Benson and Sullivan Co., where he was a warehouse manager, and then went into sales. After 25 years, he moved into a management position at the Big L Discount on Main Street, Lewiston.

Shortly before retiring, he also enjoyed working as a delivery man for Roak the Florist.

An avid sports enthusiast all of his life, he helped his older brother, Byron Adams Jr., in organizing the Twin City Fast Pitch Softball League in the 1950s, and for many years was an excellent left-handed pitcher. He also participated in local candlepin bowling leagues, and table tennis leagues for many years, amassing a nice collection of trophies along the way.

Many summers were spent camping at Keoka Beach campground, where on a nightly basis the family would enjoy sitting in front of the campfire.

A loving husband and dad, he is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Lorraine Levesque Adams; and three children, Sandi and her husband, Ron Taker, of Monmouth, James Adams Jr. of Auburn, and Scott and his wife, Jen, of Lewiston. He also leaves behind six grandchildren who kept him young, Shawn and Sara Taker, Zachary, Lindsay, Ashley and Marissa Adams; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Jane Taker. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and cousins, May Parker Burke, and Ada Parker Labonte.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Marguerite Higgins and Eileen Montgomery; and an infant daughter, who was always in his thoughts, Judith Ann Adams.
