WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) – Rep. Christopher Doyle, R-Windham, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony assault for striking an election official when he lost re-election to the town board of selectman, the state attorney general’s office said.
Doyle, 26, is accused of pushing Gail Webster, 61, supervisor of the checklist, to the floor as Town Meeting ballots were counted on March 8.
Witnesses said they heard a loud slap and a thump during the vote count, then saw Doyle standing over Webster, who was on her back on the floor. She said her elbow and back were bruised.
Doyle will be arraigned Monday in Salem District Court.
