RUMFORD – John J. Perry, Sr., 83, died Friday, March 18, at his residence in Rumford. He resided with his son John and Caroln Perry Jr. in Rumford.

Born in Rumford on July 8, 1921, he was a son of Joseph and Margaret (Arsenault) Perry. He was a graduate of Stephens High School with the Class of 1940 and Non Commissioned Officer’s Academy Class in 1951 in Erlangen Germany.

He was a Artillery Sargent Specialist in the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1972 having served during World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was a communicant of St. Athanasius – St. John Church in Rumford. He was also a member of Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, FOE, and he received a Citation as a life long member of the Bayonette Society of Korea. He was an avid cribbage player and stamp collector and enjoyed his pet dog “Molly.”

He was married in Rumford, on May 13, 1946, to the late M. Priscilla Bissonette who died in Rumford on Feb. 21, 1988.

Survivors include a son, John J. Perry Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Rumford; daughter, Martha Witherell and her husband, John, of West Peru; five sisters, Mrs. Rita Lizotte, and Mrs. Catherine Glazier of Rumford, Mrs. Julie Burns of Mexico, Sr. Ida Perry S.C. of Pawtucket, R.I., and Lorraine Nadeau and her husband, Francis, of Rumford; a brother, Auburn Perry and his wife, Laura, of Sun City, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Devon and Brian Witherell of West Peru, John J. IV, Elizabeth, and Ian of Rumford.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Armand, William, Gerard, Phillip and Alphee.
