ALLENSTOWN, N.H. (AP) – About 100 homes were evacuated as a precaution Monday afternoon because of concerns that a wastewater plant fire might have released harmful chemical fumes.

Officials said they were concerned about a disinfecting chemical used at the Suncook Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The two-alarm fire was reported around 3 p.m. and by 6 p.m. residents were allowed back into their homes but were advised to stay inside.

In addition to the residents of the neighborhood, the evacuation forced one business to close for the day.



NASHUA, N.H. (AP) – Five Rivier College students have been charged with stealing street signs that match the names of some teams in the NCAA basketball tournament.

Police recovered signs designating Connecticut, Vermont, Indiana, Carolina and Rhode Island streets.

The male students were arrested after midnight Monday.

They were released on bail for an April 6 court appearance.
