LEWISTON – Laurent “Babe” Jacques, 79, a resident of Round Pond Road in Livermore passed away Monday, March 21, at St. Mary’s Hospital where he had been a patient since Saturday.

He was born and raised in Livermore Falls, the son of Willie and Mabel Paradis Jacques. He attended the grammar schools of Livermore Falls and was a 1949 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.

He served in World War II as a merchant marine, enlisting his sophomore year of high school. On May 13, 1950, he married Grace Diamond at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He worked at International Paper Co., Otis Mill and James River Paper Co., in Jay, retiring after 42 years of service. His greatest joys in life were his family, hunting, fishing, going to camp, snowmobiling, four wheeling and puttering around the house.

He was a very talented and gifted man. To his grandsons he was known as “Pepp.” He could fix and modify anything. He loved to cook and entertain for friends and family. He was a member of the American Legion in Augusta, VFW, Frank L. Mitchell, Post 3335 of Jay, I.P. Quarter Century Club, a former member of the Jay-Livermore Falls Hunting Club, Jug Hill Riders, Snowmobile Club of East Livermore and the Stump Jumpers Snowmobile Club of Leeds.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years of Livermore; one daughter, Kristal Flagg and her husband, Russell, of Livermore Falls; three grandsons, Lukeus, Lance and Lyle Flagg, all of Livermore Falls; a brother, Willie Jacques and his wife, Claire, of Jupiter, Fla.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Robert Jacques; and a sister, Madeleine Nadeau.
