Dear Sun Spots: I am a member of a nonprofit organization, and we are in need of 9-by-13 baking pans for our various public suppers. We would appreciate any pans which you no longer use. Please call me at (207) 539-2668. Thank you. – Diane Page, Oxford.

Dear Sun Spots: When I was a little girl about 7 or 8 years old, I used to listen to my mom’s Christmas record. I have no idea of the name of the song, but I’d like to try and find the song on a record or tape. I do know that it is sung by a woman. It includes: there’s a hole in my Christmas stocking, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s the Christmas stocking my grandma gave to me when I was just a girl. And when I grow up and have a daughter, I know what my gift to her will be. I’ll give her my own Christmas stocking with a hole, and she’ll be as happy as me.

If any of your readers can tell me who sings this song and the name of it, it would be so appreciated. Thank you. – Ruth Slattery, No Town.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots did not locate anything with the lyrics you provided. However, Sun Spots did find the following lyrics by the Cricketones that she thought you might enjoy:

Little Christmas Stocking With A Hole In The Toe

In the house upon the hill

Hanging on the window sill

Was a little Christmas stocking with a hole in the toe

And when Santa came to call

At the house upon the hill

He saw the Christmas stocking hanging in the candle glow.

Santa chuckled to himself

As he walked across the floor

To the little Christmas stocking with a hole in the toe

And he saw a note was pinned

(To) the place where it was torn

He read the note then turned his head

so teardrops would not show

The note said, “Santa I am just a little boy

And I have everything that could bring me Yuletide joy

When you fill my stocking, if it should overflow

I won’t mind if something pushes through the hole in the toe.”

Santa went back to his sled

And he loaded up his pack

Then he went back down the chimney and his heart was oh so glad

And he filled the stocking until no more he could pack

‘Cause the note said, “Please, dear Santa

Could you make the gifts for mom & dad?”
