LEWISTON – Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Part of the program is the “Read-To-Me” project. Delta Kappa Gamma Mu Chapter, with the help of the St. Mary’s Auxiliary and the Lisbon Rotary Club, purchase, pack and deliver books to the new mothers in local hospitals.

Each packet includes a new book suitable for mothers to begin reading to their newborn.

There is also included a letter of encouragement to the new mother, citing research in how important reading to a newborn can be for future development.

Delta Kappa Gamma provides the books to Central Maine Medical Center, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and Advocates for Children.

Anyone who would like to help should contact pspilecki@lewnet.avcnet.org or Pat Spilecki, Mu Chapter president, 156 East Ave.
