ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Tip Fairchild belted three-run triple to give the University of Southern Maine a 3-2 victory over Trinity in the second game of the doubleheader on Friday.

Fairchild also got the last five outs to pick up the save for the Huskies.

In the first game, Trinity scored 10 runs in the third inning on its way to a 15-4 triumph over USM (3-2). Chandler Barbard had two doubles for the Bantams (9-1).

Carroll sweeps

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Roddy Ames punched out three RBIs for Colby College, but Carroll College was just too much as it took the first game of the doubleheader with a score of 14-7.

In the second game, Carroll hit four home runs as it defeated Colby, 12-3. Andy Carr had two doubles for the White Mules.

Softball

Lawrence 4, USM 0

FORT MYERS, Fla – Becca Reason hit two doubles and drove in two runs to pace Lawrence to a 4-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine (2-2) in a softball game on Friday.

Lauren Kost threw a complete game shutout for Lawrence (3-7).

Katie Mainville pitched four innings of scoreless relief with nine strikeouts for the Huskies (2-1).

Southern Maine 2, Wisconsin-Whitewater 1

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Evon Hudspeth drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the University of Southern Maine a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater (5-6) in a softball game on Friday.

Melissa Henderson went the distance with seven strikeouts for the Huskies.

USM’s Laura Pratt had three hits and two doubles.
