LEWISTON – YWCA of Central Maine will offer American Red Cross lifeguard and water safety instructor courses. The courses are available to YWCA members, community members and businesses.

The lifeguard course will provide the minimum necessary skills for an individual to qualify as a lifeguard. Participants must be 15 on or before the final class. The YWCA will offer five sessions.

All participants must pass a prerequisite skills test at the beginning of the course. The price is $200 for YWCA members and $225 for non-members.

Session I will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 9, 10 and 23; Session II, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 24, May 7 and May 8; Session III, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 15, 22 and June 5; Session IV, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 12 and 14; Session V, from 3 to 9 p.m. June 20 to 24.

The water safety instructor course will trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses. Participants must be 16 at the start of the course and must have a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate.

The YWCA will offer three sessions of the course. Participants must pass a prerequisite skills and written test at the beginning. The price is $225 for YWCA members and $250 for non-members.

Session I will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 1; Session II, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6; Session III, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 13.
