NORWAY – George William French, 84, of Norway, died March 28, at his residence, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Norway, on Dec. 9, 1920, the son of Eugene and Ethel (Abbott) French. He married the former Carol Richards on Oct. 14, 1950.

He worked for many years at A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. in South Paris and later for Snow’s Marina in Norway.

He liked hunting, fishing and bowling. He also enjoyed coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in the Oxford Hills area. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Pythias. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Norway; a daughter, Rebecca Hemenway and her husband, Ernest, of North Carolina; a son, Russell French and his wife, Jill, of South Paris; five grandchildren, Heather Melton and her husband, James, of North Carolina, Zackary and Nicholas Hemenway, both of North Carolina and Joseph and Brett French, both of South Paris; two great-grandchildren, Savana and Trevor Melton, both of North Carolina; a nephew, Brad Frost; and two nieces, Carol Ann Frost and Roberta Atwood.

He was predeceased by a son, Rodney French; a sister, Esther Morrissette; and a niece, Anita Gatlin.
