SOUTH PORTLAND – A seminar on patent basics will be presented Wednesday, April 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the University of Maine School of Law, 246 Deering Ave. It will be in Room 131, middle classroom.

Tom Maas, Ph.D., a patent adviser to Maine’s patent program, will discuss the types of inventions that are subject to patent protection, the practical steps to obtaining a patent and performing searches on an invention.

Maas is a registered patent agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His background is in research and development, business development and intellectual property management. His experience includes laboratory careers with IBM, Exxon and Amoco developing technology that resulted in numerous patents.
