OXFORD – An Oxford teen escaped serious injury Friday night when the rear axle of his mother’s car broke, and the car overturned on Rabbit Valley Road.

Malcolm C. Delano, 16, of Rabbit Valley Road was driving a 2003 Buick LeSabre around a curve when the accident occurred, according to a report filed by Oxford Police Department reserve Officer James Richardson.

Delano complained of back pain, said Oxford police Sgt. Rickie Jack, who assisted Richardson with the investigation.

Jack said it appeared that the left rear brake rotor broke and then the axle broke, sending the off the road and causing it to flip.

The car was registered to Diane Delano and was declared a total loss.
