NORTH AUSTIN, Texas – Jeanne Elizabeth Hawkes Bedard, 60, widow of Francis R. Bedard of 11 Middle Ave., Mexico, died Friday, April 22, at St. David Medical Center in North Austin, Texas.

She was born May 2, 1944, in Rumford, the daughter of Burton and Aldine (Gaudet) Hawkes. She graduated from Dixfield High School and attended St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Massachusetts.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church and an active member of the community. She was the director of the Beacon House in Rumford. She enjoyed kayaking, making baskets, having coffee with her friends at Dick’s and exploring the back roads of Maine to find new swimming holes. She loved being with her family and friends at home and at Roxbury Pond.

Survivors include two sons, Todd Bedard and his companion, Kelly, of Lynn, Mass., and Nathan Bedard and his wife, Rhonda, of Point Venture, Texas; two daughters, Amy and her husband, Mike Gillis, of Hulls Cove and Audrey Bedard and her companion, Heath Bernard, of Mexico; two brothers, Sidney Hawkes and his wife, Jane, of Springfield, Va., and Burton Hawkes of Utah; a sister, Judith Theriault and husband, Paul, of Cape Neddick; and two grandchildren, Brittany Bedard and Levi Bernard, both of Mexico.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth Bedard.
