FARMINGTON – Five people from Jay pleaded not guilty Friday to charges in two separate court cases, one involving theft charges and the other involving drug charges.
Ronald J. Berard, 31, and his wife, Andrea M. Berard, 25, pleaded not guilty to two different theft charges linked to the same case in Franklin County Superior Court.
Ronald J. Berard was indicted in March on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
The charge is related to more than $100,000 that was taken from Fabian Oil Co. on Main Street in Jay within the last two years.
Berard had worked at the gas station and handled money, Police Chief Larry White Sr. said at the time of Berard’s arrest in February.
Andrea Berard, 25, was indicted on a charge of theft by receiving stolen property.
In another case, a family pleaded not guilty to drug charges.
Clifford Adams, 56, and Lili Adams, 48, were each arrested Feb. 18 on a charge of aggravated trafficking in marijuana after police searched their home, which is within 1,000 feet of a school.
Police said they found marijuana and other drugs.
Their son, Aaron Adams, 22, turned himself in to police about a week later.
He was arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
All three were indicted by a Franklin County grand jury in March.
