Racing to beat the rain, hundreds of people took advantage of the fourth annual Oxford Hills Manufactured Housing Show over the weekend.

Some 80 completely furnished modular homes were displayed by manufacturers and retailers at 10 separate locations on Routes 26 and 121.

KBS Building Systems Inc. Sales Manager Mike Hamm said Saturday tours of his facility during the first two hours were already triple the turnout of last year.

The 80,000-square-foot KBS manufacturing plant in South Paris can erect buildings completely inside the factory. Hamm said employees enjoy the floor radiant heat and bright lighting for great working conditions. According to Hamm, everything is custom built including commercial structures, condos and homes, and they are currently building a convent for Waterville.

As a building goes through the 15 bays at KBS, it takes seven business days from floor decking in bay one to the completed work with all installations.

The 10 participants included Alternative Modular Homes, KBS Building Systems Inc., Keiser Industries, Maine Home Center, Maine Home Crafters, Martin’s Country Homes, Oxford Homes, Schiavi Homes, Turn Key Homes of Maine and Twin Town Homes.

Route 26 in Oxford was a busy and festive place as crowds visited homes on both sides of the road. Bob Martin of Martin Homes said his new model ranch was swamped with viewers.

Homes came in many designs and styles from camps, capes, ranches and raised ranches to two-story colonials. The designs inside each style varied to make each display model unique. Bathrooms with saunas and walk-in closets large enough to be a nursery were featured.
