LEWISTON – Adrienne Laurette Delorme Bergeron, of South Main Street, Auburn, died Tuesday, May 3, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion from colon cancer.

She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Lewiston, the daughter of Napoleon and Florida Lapointe Delorme.

On April 30, 1938, she married Joseph Noel Bergeron at St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston. They built a home on Prospect Hill in Auburn and moved into it in January 1940. She lived there nearly 65 years, until her illness in June 2004.

Prior to her marriage she worked at the Hill Mill. The couple raised six children and she baby-sat many others through the years. In 1966, she started work as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital, and later at Bolster Heights and Intown Manor, retiring in 1982. She took great pride in her home, was a very good cook and enjoyed canning, sewing and needlework, making beautiful tablecloths and pictures for her children and grandchildren. She made an heirloom christening dress from her wedding gown in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were baptized in.

She had a great devotion to St. Anthony and prayed the rosary daily. She was very proud of obtaining her driver’s license at 60. She was a communicant at St. Louis Church, a member of Les Dames de Ste. Anne, Les Marchandes de Bonheur and the New Auburn Senior Citizens Club.

She is survived by her children, Georgette Whittier of Poland, Jeanne Collings of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Dr. Roger Bergeron and companion, Diane Douglas, of Auburn and Doris and her husband, Steve Johnson, of Scarborough; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Anthony Pare and his wife, T.J., and children Matthew, Courtney and Bridget of Scituate, Mass., James Pare of Auburn; Christine (Pare) Mumau and her husband, Mark, and children, Zachary and Rachelle of Hartford, Steven Whittier and his wife, Penny, of Durham, John Collings and his wife, Michelle, and son, Brandon of Peru, N.Y., Peter Collings and daughter, Noelle, of Tempe, Ariz., Matthew Collings of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Natalie Johnson of Scarborough. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Lucien (Yvette) Blais; brother, Fernand Delorme and wife, Irene; a sister-in-law, Cecile Bergeron; former sons-in-law, Jacob Whittier, J. Thomas Pare and Daniel Collings; and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, killed in an industrial accident at Pioneer Plastics in 1978; her daughter, Nita, killed in 1951 at 12 by a drunken driver near her home; daughter, Constance Pare; grandson, Thomas Whittier; and sister, Carmen Bilodeau.
