LEWISTON – Albert Henry Vye Sr., 90, of 36 Ferry Road, Lisbon, died Monday, May 9, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

Born in Auburn, on Jan. 21, 1915, the fourth child of William Ambrose and Mary (Roderick) Vye. He attended Webster Grammar School and Edward Little High School in Auburn. He played football and did track in both schools.

On Dec. 8, 1932, he became an Eagle Scout and later a Sea Scout, two accomplishments he was very proud of. On Jan. 10, of this year, at the Lisbon Falls Boy Scout Troop 109 Court of Honor, he received a replacement Eagle Badge earned in 1932 that was stolen several years ago.

After high school he did woodwork and then he worked as a shoe cutter. During those years he was a longtime member of the YMCA enjoying gymnastics and swimming. He worked at the South Portland Shipyard as a ship fitter on super structures. Later in 1945, he joined the Carpenters Union 107 and worked for various contractors. He also operated his own home improvement company until retirement. In the last few years, he was one of many found at the “Winners Circle” at Lewiston Raceway.

Besides his wife of 47 years, Gwendolyn (White) Vye, he leaves behind one son, Albert H. Vye Jr., of Brunswick; one granddaughter, Leandra Rocafort of Virginia; one brother, William A. Vye Jr., of Auburn; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; one very close friend for more than 60 years, Alan G. Davis of South Portland; and his favorite cat, Lucky.

He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Marian; and two brothers, Robert E. and Harrison.
