LISBON FALLS – Walter J. Wheeler, 81, of 9 West Merrill Road, Topsham, passed into eternity while being transported from Midcoast Hospital to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, on Monday, May 9.

Born in Lisbon Falls, he was the son of Carroll and Cora Jones Wheeler. He graduated from Lisbon High School in the Class of 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He was married to the former Jean Elizabeth Reynolds. She went to be with the Lord Sept. 19, 2002.

As a young man he worked at Wheeler’s Grocery store in Lisbon Falls, later he owned and operated his chicken farm in Topsham, and prior to retirement operated an electronic sales and service business

He attended South Auburn Baptist Church, was a 33rd degree mason in the Ancient York Lodge A.F. and A.M. No 155 Lisbon Falls, D.A.V., and a 65-year member of the Topsham Grange. He served on the board of selectmen for the town of Topsham and on several governmental committees.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by a daughter, Carol Edwards and her husband, Paul, of Topsham; a son, Barry Wheeler of Winthrop; a daughter-in-law, Linda Wheeler of Topsham; a granddaughter, Charity Delldonna and her fiance, Shannon Barger; four grandsons, Benjamin Edwards, Stephen Wheeler and his wife, Charlene, Andrew Wheeler and his wife, Amanda and Anwar Parvez; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Marcella Delldonna; a cousin, Christine Jellison; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
