STONY BROOK, NY – Boston University sophomore Ashlee Freeman, who pitched nine innings of five-hit shutout ball with nine strikeouts, led the Terriers to a 1-0 victory over the University of Maine in a softball game on Thursday.
In the bottom of the ninth, Boston’s (26-17) Tyler Benson led off with a double. Jamie Haas then single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Brandi Shields reched first on a fielders’ choice, with Benson out at home. Chiya Louie then reached first on a fielding error which scored Haas for the game-winning run.
Sarah Bennis went the distance, allowing six hits, no walks and had 10 strikeouts for the Black Bears (16-25).
