PORTLAND – English singer and songwriter Richard Thompson will perform an acoustic concert at 7:30 p.m. May 19 at The State St. Church, 159 State St.

He will be accompanied by his longtime collaborator, bassist Danny Thompson (no relation). Opening the show will be Maine-based singer songwriter Carol Noonan.

Richard is also highly regarded as a guitarist. He is one of the first guitarists that Jimi Hendrix had sought out on his infamous move to England in the ’60s. Richard was then a founding member of the pioneer English folk-rock group, Fairport Convention.

After leaving Fairport, Richard married vocalist Linda Peters and they teamed up for numerous albums.

In 1982, the couple released “Shoot Out The Lights.” The album was chosen by Rolling Stone as one the 10 best albums of the decade.

Tickets are $32 and are available by calling (978) 462-9630 or at all Bull Moose Music locations.
