FARMINGTON – Lita Hatch Smith, 66, of Jay, died peacefully Sunday evening, May 15, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, with her family by her side.

She was born Dec. 2, 1938, in Wilton, a daughter of Arthur L. and Lena (Drake) Hatch. She was a graduate of Wilton Academy and for many years was employed as an office manager for Western Maine Community Action.

She later worked at the CareerCenter in Wilton. Throughout her career, she counseled people in an understanding, empathetic and professional manner.

She was a past matron of the Sherburne Chapter, OES. As a devoted mom, she helped with the local Boy Scouts. She also was a volunteer for the local ambulance, and in her free time enjoyed working on crafts and sewing; wedding gowns were one of her specialties.

She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Stanley N. Voter, of Jay; a son, Rodney Smith Jr., and his wife, Deborah, of Strong; three daughters, Leslie J. Marean and her husband, Larry, of Salem, Rhonda L. Wheeler and her husband, Michael, of Avon and Daphne D. Lawler and her husband, Joseph, of Waterville; one sister, Beverly A. Childs of Dixfield; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandbaby “on-the-way” in August.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Lee Ann Smith, who died July 26, 1964.
