NORTH TURNER – Henry Elmer Faunce Sr., 97, of North Turner, died Monday, May 16.

He was born in Minot, on Feb. 10, 1908, the son of Lowe and Alva (Dimmick) Faunce, and was educated in local schools.

He was an Army veteran and served in the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines. He worked in the shipyard during the war, later drove trucks, and most recently worked at International Paper for 23 years, retiring in 1970.

He loved to tell stories, go camping, bird watch and was a great dancer. He had been a member of the Nezinscot Lodge AF & AM for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby (Pillsbury) Faunce, of North Turner; three sons, Henry Elmer Faunce Jr., and his companion, Kathleen, of Englewood, Fla., Lester Lowe Faunce and his wife, Theresa, of Miami, Fla., and Robert Lloyd Faunce and his wife, Pat, of Vero Beach, Fla.; three stepsons, Larry Brackley of Key West, Fla., Wayne Brackley and his wife, Barbara, of New Gloucester and Dennis Brackley of New Gloucester; three daughters, Harriette Goulet of Livermore Falls, Gertrude Therrien and her husband, Gerald, of North Turner, and Janice Faunce and her companion, Bobbi, of Cedar Hill, Texas; two stepdaughters, Susan Lowberg and her husband, Arthur of Raymond, and Vicki Moody and her husband, Stephen, of New Gloucester; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Myrtle Trean Faunce, in 1974; one son, Hollis Faunce, in 1990; and one grandson, David Faunce in 1990.
