It’s official: Maine now has “thought crime” legislation.
Homosexuals have been attacking Christians for rejecting the special rights law that Gov. Baldacci and the liberals in Augusta have imposed on the people of Maine.
The truth is there are only two genders: male and female. Making laws to recognize people for the type of sex they engage in is ludicrous.
Homosexuals say they want fairness in employment, housing and credit, but no one can know whether a person is gay unless that person tells you so. Even then, how can you know whether a person is only claiming to be gay to get an edge over someone else applying for the same job?
To complicate things even more, people can sue small businesses and individuals claiming they were turned down because they were perceived or thought to be gay. Even if you won the court battle over a “thought crime,” it still could wipe you out financially.
Remember that, as a minority class legally protected by this new law, gays could be eligible for help with their complaint from the Maine Human Rights Commission. So Mainers could be paying for legal fees on both sides, one through taxation, the other out of pocket.
In a country that guarantees freedom of speech, shouldn’t we also have freedom of thought?
