RUMFORD — Ben Madigan trotted home following an errant throw by Winthrop to score the winning run and lift Mountain Valley to a triumphant 5-4 victory over the Ramblers in MVC baseball action on Tuesday.
The Falcons (11-1) entered the bottom of the sixth inning down 4-2 when Tristan Lapointe got things started with a leadoff infield single.
Jeremy Sterling walked and Ben Madigan singled to load the bases. Marcus Palmer legged out an infield hit to drive in one run and Korey Stairs followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Sterling to tie the game. Madigan scored soon after on an error by the Winthrop defense to give the Falcons a lead they would not relinquish. Palmer pitched seven solid innings and struck out six hitters to earn the mound win.
Chip Burnham was shouldered with the loss for the Ramblers (10-3), surrendering five hits and five runs over six innings.
Telstar 13, Dirigo 6
DIXFIELD – Terry Collins belted three hits Tuesday to pace Telstar to a 13-6 victory over Dirigo in MVC baseball action on Tuesday.
The Rebels (9-4) kicked their offense into high gear in the fourth inning after Dirigo starter Spencer Berry was ejected, scoring four runs and adding six more in the fifth. Josh Longway stepped off the mound with a 13-3 lead after five innings of work to record the win.
Chris Richards led the Cougars (4-10) with two hits, highlighted by an RBI triple in the fifth inning. Troy Houghton also contributed with a pair of hits, while reliever Brian Knowles suffered the loss.
St. Dom’s 10, Traip 0
AUBURN – Mike Carpenter belted out three hits highlighted by a double to pace undefeated St. Dom’s to a 10-0 victory over Traip in baseball action on Tuesday.
Peter Lewis chipped in for the Saints (13-0) with a hit and two RBIs, while Brent Carey added two hits and one RBI. Brady Blackman threw a one-hit game to earn the win.
Traip used a trio of pitchers in an attempt to silence the Saints’ bats, yet found no success. St. Dom’s put five runs on the board in the first two innings and showed no mercy for the remainder of the contest.
Livermore Falls 4, Madison 2
MADISON – Levi Armandi tallied three hits and one RBI to pace Livermore Falls to a 4-2 victory over Madison in one of the only dry games contested Tuesday afternoon.
Dane Hanson and Charles Lake chipped in for the Andies (8-6) with doubles, and Hanson also picked up the mound win.
Joe Dwyer led the Bulldogs (5-10) with a double, while Dan Gallagher suffered the loss.
Skowhegan 2, Lewiston 1
SKOWHEGAN – Matt Ouellette scattered four hits and struck out 11 batters Tuesday to lead Skowhegan to a narrow 2-1 win over Lewiston in a KVAC baseball matchup on Tuesday.
Dusty Dike and Brad Bratercard chipped in for the Indians (7-7) with two hits apiece.
Chad Guimond led the Blue Devils (6-8) with two hits on the day, while Nick Langway suffered the loss.
