PORTLAND – Samantha Jean Kay, 8, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 25, at Maine Medical Center after a short illness.

Born in Lewiston, on Nov. 5, 1996, she was the daughter of William L. Jr., and Penny J. (Gerry) Kay. She was a student at Lake Street School in the second grade, but also taking third grade-level classes.

She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America in the Brownie Troop 969 of Auburn and Camire Dance Studio; she was also looking forward to Author’s Day at school on Friday.

She was an artist who often used friends and family as her subjects. She loved music and was always ready with a song. She was a special young lady and will be sadly missed by all of her family, friends and teachers.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Megan Marie Kay; a brother, Nolan Michael Kay; paternal grandparents, Brenda Jean Kay of Auburn and William L. Kay Sr., of Columbus, Ga.; maternal grandparents, Sharon Tracy of Auburn and Cecil Gerry of Belfast; an uncle and aunt, Andy and Barbie Frenette of Lewiston; an uncle, Richard Bragg of Buckfield; and two cousins, A.J. and Joel Frenette.
