YORK – Bessie Whitworth O’Connell, 88, wife of Mortimer J. O’Connell, of Cider Hill Road, died Saturday, May 28, at York Hospital.
She was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Bolton, England, the daughter of Ernest and Emily Whitworth.
She and her husband lived in Lewiston until the late 1940s.
She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, N.H., and a homemaker for most of her life.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Mortimer J. O’Connell, of York; daughter, Marie Dry of Cocoa Beach, Fla,; son, James and his wife, Marjorie O’Connell, of Ogunquit; five grandchildren, Michael, Jon, Robert, David and Linda; five great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, Jessica, Jennifer and Jillian; and several nieces and nephews.
