OLD TOWN – The Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine Inc. will hold their first three-mile walk-a-thon from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 11. The walk will start at the group’s office at 294 Center St.

It is being held to provide funding for programs and training, most at no cost to show support for adoptive, foster and kinship providers and the children in their care.

Garr to visit

PORTLAND – Actress and MS LifeLines ambassador Teri Garr will be the keynote speaker at the Maine Chapter of the National MS Society Women Against MS Leadership luncheon at noon Thursday, June 16, at the Holiday Inn by the Bay.

Diagnosed with MS in 1999, Garr spends her time traveling around the United States educating others about MS.

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3,000 Maine residents have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Although there is currently no cure for MS, disease-modifying drugs are used to prevent relapses and delay the progression of disability.

Forestry workshop

AUGUSTA – The Maine Forest Service will sponsor a workshop titled “Group Certification for Forestry Professionals: New Tools, Approaches and Opportunities” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Maine Forest Service’s Bolton Hill Facility.

The free workshop will introduce forest managers, landowners, academics and consulting foresters to FSC group certification and provide guidance and tangible tools for doing certified group forestry.

The Maine Forest Service will provide coffee, lunch and all materials. Duane Nadeau of Wilton, a forester and consultant for Rainforest Alliance, and Ross Morgan, a forester and experienced auditor for FSC, of Craftsbury Common, Vt., will conduct the training.

Coalition banquet

AUBURN – The Maine Transportation Safety Coalition will hold its annual meeting and awards banquet on Thursday, June 30, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 14 Great Falls Plaza.
