OXFORD – The Boxberry School is adding a pre-kindergarten program to its curriculum in September. It is for children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 15.

The program is integrated into the kindergarten/first grade classroom and is based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education.

The program emphasizes developing problem-solving skills and socialization, which will lead to a smooth transition into academic learning. Students will engage in hands-on, project-based activities, while older students in the classroom will tackle more complex tasks of reading, writing and basic math skills.

Projects emerge based on discussions with students as well as the known interests of children. Different types of media – (print, art, construction, drama) – will be integrated into the projects.
