GARDINER – Singers with Maine-ly Harmony, an a cappella women’s chorus, traveled to Rhode Island in April for an area competition/convention weekend. The local chapter belongs to Harmony Inc., an international organization of women who sing barbershop harmony.

They joined many other choruses and quartets from New England, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Quebec and Montreal, Canada. The top choruses and quartets go on to the international competition in November in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Though Maine-ly Harmony did not place in the top rankings, the singers of all ages agreed that the experience was invaluable and fun. They attended workshops to hone up on the skills necessary for singing a cappella and were critiqued by the judges, who offered advice for improvement. M

Maine-ly Harmony meets at the Gardiner Junior High School, Route 9, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays under the direction of Kathy Greason. All women are invited to attend the rehearsals. For more information, call Lea Davis at 622-1273.
