TOPSHAM – The Mark Kleinhaut Trio will debut the music from “Holding the Center” Wednesday, June 22, at a concert at Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road.

Jazz guitarist Kleinhaut of Topsham is known for his blend of infectious melody, open improvisation and technical execution – with a modern flare steeped in jazz traditions.

“Holding the Center” is a set of compositions through which Kleinhaut explores the nuances and interaction of small group playing, particularly the rapport he shares with longtime musical colleagues Jim Lyden and Les Harris Jr.

“This trio has had some great experiences: like recording and performing with Tiger Okoshi and Bobby Watson, both amazing horn players; having our last recording, ‘A Balance of Light,’ make it into the top 20 on the national jazz radio charts; and having the opportunity to travel to Europe,” Kleinhaut said. “Now with this new material we will explore the trio format as a complete and self-contained orchestra.”
