WEST PARIS – Selectmen have voted to award a contract for paving a short section of Pioneer Street to Pike Industries. The company bid $40,771 for the job that will complete a three-year project to improve the street.

Road Commissioner Bill Keach said he received three proposals: $43,000 from Commercial Paving, $40,771 from Pike; and $39,664 from Rampart Paving.

“I recommend Pike Industries because I have done a lot of business with them and I am satisfied with their work,” Road Commissioner Keach said. “I’m not sure about Commercial Paving and don’t know much about the work done by Rampart.”

Selectman Wayne Theofrastou responded, “Because of Bill’s knowledge and expertise when it comes to paving I think we should go with his recommendation.” Colleagues Jim Johnston and Bill Birney agreed.

Selectmen also authorized Keach to use part of his tar account to repave the Allen Road, which runs off from Pioneer Street.

Town Manager Don Woodbury reminded people that composting units are still available for $25 for those signing up at the town office.

“I expect the units are going to be delivered in the next couple of weeks, and the more people start composting their own kitchen waste the more we will save at the transfer station,” he said.
