CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago White Sox placed right-hander Orlando Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list Monday with inflammation in his shoulder, his second trip to the DL this year.

Brandon McCarthy was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte and was to start Monday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals.

“El Duque” missed the 2003 season after having surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff. He is 7-2 with a 4.88 ERA in 11 starts in his first season with the White Sox, but was on the disabled list May 17 to June 2 with inflammation in his shoulder.

In his last start, a 10-4 White Sox loss to Arizona on Tuesday, Hernandez allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 2-3 innings.

McCarthy is 0-1 with a 6.97 ERA in two starts with the White Sox this season.
