Coalition barbecue

BRIDGTON – The Lake Region Healthy Community Coalition will meet at noon Tuesday, July 12, for a barbecue at the Bridgton Community Center at 15 Depot St. The coalition is a grassroots organization dedicated to increasing civic engagement. The coalition is a sponsor of the Regional Trails Summits, Communities Mobilized for Change on Alcohol – to reduce underage drinking and youth access to alcohol, Senior Transportation Program, among other community initiatives. Gardening lecture

SUMNER – A lecture titled “Gardening in the Shade” by Mark Silber author, lecturer and gardener will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at Hedgehog Hill Farm. Silber discuss aspects of creating attractive, functional and successful shade gardens. A tour of the gardens where hostas, astilbe, goat’s beard, bergenia, Cimicifuga, and other shade plants grow, will clarify some complex aspects of gardening in the shade. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions about new plants and a few additional tips about old favorites.

Hedgehog Hill gardens are open to the public for strolls, painting and photographing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, except Mondays. Lectures are held rain or shine and no reservations are needed.
