LEWISTON – Helene O. Vachon, 89, formerly of 100 Campus Ave., Lewiston, died Thursday evening, June 30, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion after a short illness.

She was born in St. Gedeon Beauce, Quebec, on Oct. 25, 1915, the daughter of Francois and Mariane Fortin. Helene moved here from Canada in 1957.

She was the widow of Joseph Vachon whom she married June 12, 1934. He died Sept. 16, 1978.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witness, and was a homemaker all her life.

Survivors include three sons, Jules Vachon and his wife, Terry, of Litchfield; Albani Vachon of St. Rene Beauce, Quebec, and Rene Vachon of Lisbon; four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Jeanine) Newcomb of Auburn, Mrs. Eldred (Cecile) Bartley of Lewiston, Mrs. Bertrand (Gisele) Gagnon of Lewiston, and Charlotte Larue of Greene; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Michael in 1995, and Laurent in 1948.
