Both Otisfield and Waterford have Fourth of July parades planned. The Otisfield Spirit of the Fourth of July Parade will be preceded by a breakfast at the Spurrs Corner Church from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The lineup will be at 9 a.m. at Sherwood Drive on Route 121, and the parade starts at 10 a.m. Anyone who would like to dress up, decorate a car, bike, baby carriage, ATV, wagon or family pet is welcome to join.
The Otisfield Fire Department will afterward perform a red, white and blue water show at the Spurrs Corner Fire Station, and there will be parade awards and the annual watermelon-seed-spitting contest.
Waterford’s annual Independence Day march will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Anyone who would like to participate should meet at the Waterford Elementary School on Valley Road at 10:30 a.m.
There also are other events in Waterford on the Fourth of July. A food booth sponsored by the Mission Outreach Committee will be run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the town common at the corner of Plummer Hill Road. The Waterford Congregational Church will hold a yard sale in the Wilkins Community House basement from 7 a.m. to noon. There will be a Waterford Library book sale from 8 a.m. to noon on the library lawn. Lastly, there will be a Fourth of July Duck Race sponsored by the Waterford PTO. The race will start around noon on Kedar Brook, next to the Kedarburn Inn. Ducks may be purchased for $5, or $20 for five ducks. For information, call 583-6551.
