LEWISTON – Bates College students, who volunteered as mentors in the Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program this year, took time to gather with their mentees at Pettingill School to say goodbye for the summer.
The matches had pizza and dessert while talking about what they did this year and what they will do this summer. Many of the Bates students will return next year and their matches will resume. However, some of the matches will close and the time together was a special one.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters program offers several mentoring programs in the Androscoggin, Oxford, northern Cumberland and southern Franklin counties.
The Bates students are part of the site-based mentoring program in Androscoggin County and are matched with children at the local elementary and middle schools. The matches meet once a week in the schools for an hour and spend time working on schoolwork, playing games, doing art projects and talking.
Those interested in mentoring should call 782-5437 or e-mail [email protected].
