AUBURN – Mayor Normand Guay will take a spot on the Auburn School Committee, acting as the City Council’s representative to that board.
Guay appointed Councilor Eric Samson to be the council’s representative to the School Committee in January. Samson decided to step down from that committee last month, once the city and schools budgets had been settled.
The multiple meetings proved to be too much, Samson said. He has two children at home, a 5-year-old and a 6-month-old. During budget hearings, Samson said he wound up in meetings four days a week.
“Something has to give, and I don’t want it to be my kids,” Samson said.
As mayor, Guay has the ability to appoint any willing councilor to the job. He decided he was best suited.
“I think I have a good working relationship with the superintendent, and I’ve tried hard to work with (School Committee Chair) Kathy Constantine to work out any differences,” Guay said.
