LEWISTON – Holy Cross School rounded out another school year with its annual spring concert, “Peace Around the World.” The program featured songs from several countries, among them, Spain, Germany, Austria, Russia and the United States. It was the second production coordinated by the school’s new music director, Melissa Colby.

Dressed in colors of the flag of the country assigned to each class, students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade performed two songs each, with some musical pieces played on recorders by students in third, fourth, fifth and upper grades.

The repertoire included “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “Every Time I Feel the Spirit,” “Bist Du Bei Mir,” “Edelweiss,” “Star Spangled Banner,” “May There Always Be Sunshine,” “Hine Ma Tov” and “Kum Ba Ya.” Prior to each set of songs, selected students presented the flag of the country presented by the group.

The Holy Cross Children’s Choir ended the afternoon with “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and “God Bless the USA” and the audience was invited to sing along.

Following the final song, Principal Shawn Chabot applauded the student body’s hard work and thanked Colby for her efforts and accomplishments in her first year with the school. The students and their families responded with a standing ovation for their teacher.
