WEST PARIS – Selectmen Thursday accepted by unanimous vote Town Manager Donald Woodbury’s recommendation for setting the 2005 tax rate at $17.30 per $1,000 of property valuation.

According to Woodbury, the new rate is a 25-cent increase over the $17.05 set last year.

“The slight increase is due to various reasons with the biggest regarding the state homestead exemption, which has gone up by $60,000,” Woodbury said.

Woodbury also stated that the amount the town needs to submit to the state is well beyond the amount budgeted for homestead exemptions at the March town meeting.

In other business, Woodbury said the tax bills will be going out on July 22 and the 3 percent discount period will run from July 25 to Aug. 25.

Selectmen also awarded a contract to D&D Building and Renovating of Paris. The company was the low bidder.

Approval of the bid was unanimous.
