Recently I was driving home to Sabattus on Sabattus Street. I was in the left-hand lane because, as drivers approach Grove Street, there are signs that state “Right lane ends” and “Right lane must turn right.”
There was a car in front of me in my lane and a car beside it in the right-hand lane. I expected the driver of the car in the right lane to turn right at Grove Street, according to the signs, but he did not; he went straight ahead, forcing the car ahead of me to swerve into the oncoming lane.
Fortunately there were no oncoming cars, or there might have been an accident.
The car whose driver disobeyed the signs had a State of Maine House Member license plate.
Does making the laws give a person the right to break the law?
I think not.
Eugene L. Dunlap, Sabattus
