On reading your editorial of July 12, “Sad day for equal rights,” my saturation level reached an all-time high.

I was brought up to believe, especially what is in print, that the writer had better have proof and facts to support what is written or suffer the consequences. Where is the documented proof from banks, landlords, colleges and places of employment that discrimination is occurring statewide? I’m not convinced, nor have the people of Maine been convinced twice before.

To quote the editorial, I am not going to “fall victim to distortion, hysteria and sound bite politics meant to divide the state into warring factions.” I am going to use my life experiences and information I’ve gathered talking to people in banking, education, employment and housing to make my decision.

The editorial sells the people of Maine short when it tries to convince us that we are discriminating against anyone for any reason. We all have equal rights under the law.

Stop muddying the waters and present actual proof that discrimination is documented fact.
