PARIS HILL – Robert W. “Bob” Starmer, 81, of Paris Hill, formerly of Weston, Mass., died Wednesday, July 13.
A veteran of World War II, he served three years in the Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Iowa. He graduated from Springfield College in 1952, with a bachelor’s degree and received a master’s degree from Boston University.
He taught physical education and coached in the Weston Public Schools in Weston, Mass. He was director of the Pathfinder Club, a summer boys camp in Weston, from the early 1960s. He went on to become director of sports and athletics in the Weston public schools, retiring in 1981.
His honest love and respect for kids helped many on their way to become stronger individuals. He looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. He never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it.
He leaves his wife, Fay Starmer (Barnard); his three children, Janice Starmer of Massachusetts, Robert Starmer Jr., of Oregon and Barnard Starmer of New Hampshire; and six grandchildren.
