HARPSWELL – Daniel H. O’Connell, 81, of 15 Rock Spring Road, died Monday, July 18, at the Maine Veterans Home, Augusta.

He was born in Lewiston, Feb. 19, 1924, a son of William P. and Mary Ann Craig O’Connell. He graduated from Lewiston High School and later attended the University of Notre Dame.

He married Mary Ann Bauer in Falston, Md., on April 4, 1970.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in Korea. He later became an administrator for the B&O and C&O railroads in Maryland. While employed by the railroad, he headed up the Better Service conference.

He was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4714, Maryland, and master of Merriconeag Grange.

He and his wife summered in the area for several years, before moving to Harpswell in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of Harpswell; three brothers, Mortimer J. O’Connell of York, David C. O’Connell of Harpswell, and Paul F. and his wife, Gloria O’Connell, of Harpswell; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three brothers, William, Edward and Louis O’Connell.
