NORTH JAY – Eleanor J. Nadeau, 78, of North Jay, formerly of Dryden and Winn, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 19, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Harold Knockwood, with whom she lived for the last five years.

She was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Wilton, a daughter of Duncan R. and Mary (Peary) Trask. She was a 1944 graduate of Wilton Academy.

She married Arris Nadeau. He predeceased her May 5, 1989.

She was employed at G.H. Bass, Livermore Shoe and retired from Forster Manufacturing Co., where she was employed for many years as a secretary.

She was a member of the Wilton United Methodist Church and was a proud member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed reading, knitting and collecting cat memorabilia.

She is survived by three sons, Mark Nadeau and his companion, Sandy Harriman, of North Jay, Jeff of North Jay, and David and his wife, Kevin, of Newton, N.C.; two daughters, Susan Knockwood and her husband, Harold, of North Jay, and Kimberly Downs and her husband, Richard, of Winn; one brother, Stanford Trask and his wife, Alice, of Popham; one sister, Betty Morrison of Dixfield; eight grandchildren, Kelly Hogue, Steven Knockwood, Melissa “Missy” Nadeau, Mindy Cote, Curena Nadeau, Richard Downs Jr., Suzy Cook and Lesley Rhoney; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
