MINOT – Selectmen have initiated a process to discontinue a portion of Lane Road and convey a 60-foot section to the Minot United Methodist Church. Until two years ago, Lane Road went from Minot Avenue, passing behind the church to connect with Empire Road. At that time, the state Department of Transportation’s project to remedy some of the traffic problems in the Minot Corner area, relocated Empire Road about 100 feet closer to the church and closed off that end of Lane Road. In the process, the church lost some of its off-road parking.

Roger Goodwin, spokesman for the church, said it intended to pave the whole section.

Greg Simpson, who lives in one of two residences on the remainder of Lane Road, favored the discontinuance. Selectmen approved an order of discontinuance with the condition that the town receive an easement to a turnaround for school buses and snowplows.

Final approval to discontinue the section will have to be voted on at town meeting.

In other business: Michael Dixon, Taylor Pond Association spokesman, told the board that results of the Taylor Pond Watershed Survey, taken in May and June, are being studied at the Androscoggin County Soil and Water Conservation District.

• Selectmen named Minot resident Cathleen McAnneny to represent the town on the Taylor Pond Survey Steering Committee with the stipulation that any decision that needs to be made on behalf of the town is brought back to the board for approval.

• Selectmen authorized its chairman, Dean Campbell, to sign a certificate of abandonment for the Hodge Hill Acres subdivision. It consists of 16 house lots on the former Morrison land next to Minot Consolidated School.
