KNOX – Lewiston’s Elliot 11-year-old baseball all-stars advanced at the State Little League Tournament with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Saco. Joe McKinnon singled in the winning run in the sixth inning. Luke Cote hurled a complete game for the victory.
In earlier tourney action, Elliot nipped Camden-Rockport 4-3 in extra innings. C-R went ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh, but Lewiston rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the frame. Ben Wigant’s double plated the tying run and Coby Poussard’s single provided the winning tally. Poussard finished with 3 hits and was the winning pitcher. Cote and Matt Bowen both added 2 hits. Shawn Ricker and Matt Poto both made fine catches in the outfield.
Elliot won a berth in the state tourney by defeating Waterville 13-3 for the District 5 championship. Wigant led the attack with 2 singles and a triple. Corey Adams, Poussard, and Poto all whacked a double. Cote collected 3 singles. Wigant and Poussard combined for the pitching win.
