NEW GLOUCESTER – Shaker Village announces several workshops during August.

During “Dress Your Doll” participants will make their own dolls, clothes, face and hair. The workshop will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. It is recommended for families with children age 8 and up. Fee is $30 with materials provided. Preregistration is required.

The early Shakers learned a lot about basket making from the Native Americans. The workshop will show how to make a basic square to round reed basket that draws from the Native American tradition. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. The fee is $40 with materials provided; people should bring measuring tape, sharp scissors and clothespins. Preregistration is required.

Participants can learn the seven-step method of chair caning at a workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. They should bring a chair with a hand woven seat. Fee is $30 with materials provided. Preregistration is required.

Those attending will learn how to make a Shaker-style handmade hanging wall cupboard with shelves in a workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Instructor will be Dan Grecoe, whose work is sold at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Store and the Shaker Museum Reception Center. Fee is $40 and preregistration is required. Materials will be provided.
